Monika Taffet: How Her Career Began...
Share
Monika-Lucretia Taffet was born in Transylvania, where she grew up in Neumarkt am Mieresch. A creative streak was instilled in her from birth, as her family includes several artists. Taffet can look back on an exceptionally solid artistic education. She began her career early in her hometown at an art-focused high school. Attending such a high school in Transylvania meant learning the craft of art from the ground up, comprehensively, and with a close connection between theory and practice. This included instruction in drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as art history. Earning a diploma from such an art school provided the opportunity - and usually the only access - to studying Fine Arts in Transylvania/Romania. However, this did not come to pass, as Taffet relocated to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1986.
For her artistic career, this move meant the freedom to decide entirely on her own how to shape her further development. She initially studied at the Berlin University of the Arts under Prof. Dietmar Lemcke, who appointed her a master student in 1996. This was followed by teacher training in the subject of art at the Berlin University of the Arts under Prof. Klaus Fußmann.
